Editorial Fourteen: The Phantom Dentist

I don't think my impressions of the latest Star Wars movie are radically different from any other geek-boy opinions, but I figured I'd share 'em anyhow:

The Good:

  • Any scene involving lightsabers was glorious
(esp. Qui Gon using his as a lock-pick).
  • Battle Droids / Destroyer Droids.
  • Pod racing.
  • Young Ben Kenobi.

The Bad:

  • Chinese accents on them Federation Trading fellas.
  • Poor scripting.
  • Jar Jar needed about 15 minutes less screen time
  • Not the Yoda we know and love. Didn't have that spark of life that made the Empire Yoda so successful...

The Ugly:

  • Lip syncing on them Federation Trading fellas.
  • Pseudo-scientific explanation of the Force. Bad bad bad.
  • No Lando.

A series of incredibly slick moments coupled with a series of pathetic ones made for a slightly above average movie-goin' experience.

And yes, to all those who have emailed me wondering, that was LSilky who gave Anakin the high-five just before his big pod-race scene (Lucas had originally written it as one of those brief but tender "a-kiss-for-luck" moments, but decided a less, uh, affectionate high-five was more appropriate):
