The glorious
spectacle that is the
San Diego
Comic Con 2008 ran from July 23rd
through the 27th. The sheer volume of attendees
was every bit as dense as the sold-out 2007
event. This year's show arrived immediately after Celebration Japan,
which made for an exhausting week. Had
breakfast at the Nogarita, Japan airport and
lunch in San Diego (and considered dinner in Mexico
for the tri-country hat trick, but we were
entirely
too exhausted to deal with a joint like
Tijuana).
Highlights:
-
Our buddy Philip constructed a pretty
incredible multi-purpose crate for the OPX
booth, that included minifridge, work
station, photo studio with lights, storage lockers,
etc. A marvel of woodworking.
- Designed the
official Star Wars Fan Club Breakfast ticket
and
t-shirt.
- Lucasfilm/Gentle
Giant/Dark Horse/Weta party on Friday night
included the likes of Rick Baker, Bruce
Campbell, and Ted Raimi. Or so I was told,
as I apparently hung out at the wrong end of
that shindig.
- Shared an
intimate moment with Hayden Panettiere (the cheerleader
from Heroes) after she cut her finger and
came into the our little back office for a
band-aid. Somehow successfully resisted impressing
her with a "invincible cheerleaders
shouldn't need a band-aid" comment.
- Discovered
all the "half-off graphic novel" booths
hack their prices down to $5/ea around noon
on Sunday. Spent $70 in the space of an hour.
