Cup Noodles
October 4, 2006
September marked the 35th anniversary of Momofuku Ando's Cup Noodles - the modest ramen vittles on the noble mission of ending world hunger. To date they've sold over 25 billion packs of noodles. Marking the anniversary, the Nissin Company has launched their very slick freedom-project.jp website - part of a much larger media campaign to portray the mighty noodle as a symbol of "freedom" (Ramen = Freedom. Obviously).
The whole Freedom Project entails a series of commercials, a short film, posters, ads, etc - all revolving around an animated tale by Katsuhiro Otomo (he of Akira fame). The film will be broken out into six installments and spread out over the next year. After that Nissin will make them available as a DVD. Scope out a TV spot right here, and a trailer over here. It's all in some crazy moon-man language, but the visuals are worth the download.
