Out With the Old
May 12, 2005

DC Comics has recently unveiled a new logo. Not too shabby. We'll be seeing an animated version attached to Batman Begins this June. Nice that they kept the circle and star theme - the whole deal is just hair too visually complicated, but does offer a sweeping super-heroic quality that works well.

Not as imposing as the stark, bold Marvel logo. Marvel was clever enough to hire out the geniuses at Imaginary Forces (greatest company name ever, it's true) for the stupendous flipbook animated logo that plays in front of movies based on Marvel "properties". The animation can be seen in both the IF portfolio and my mind every time I see the Marvel imprint on a book.

Details (marketing blather, really) on the DC refresh right here. So long heavy circle w/stars. Good riddance collegiate-style typography.
