Suckadelic Art
October 30, 2008
"The Evil SUCKLORD of CHINATOWN has teamed up with premier Los Angeles Toy Temple MUNKY KING to present a group show of epic Proportions."
Suckadelic custom art show MUNKY KING Gallery 7308 Melrose Ave. LA CA. October 30, 2008. 8-11 PM (show runs until November 23rd)
The Station Management was invited to participate in one of those new "customize-a-vinyl-figure" art shows. The base figure doled out to 40+ artists was the Sucklord 600, a funkified Boba Fett based on the costumed persona of the supergenius behind the highly recommended (unlicensed) Star Wars Breakbeats album from '98. Here's the man himself at the 2007 Celebration 4 in LA. If you are hip to such events, you may have seen him around.
After much contemplation it was decided Bruce Lee's iconic yellow jumpsuit from Game of Death best spoke to the bounty hunting lifestyle. For bounty hunter Boba Fett, life is a Game of Death.
As a bonus, Lee's Spartan sense of style lent itself well to our "beginner" toy customizing status. Here's how it went down:
 | | | Step One: Mask off hands/head, lay down base of shockingly yellow spray paint. | Step Two: Apply black pin striping by hand. Realize after fact better methods for uniform pin striping than rusty/shaky hand. Ah well. | | | | Step Three: Combine nunchuck ingredients (1 wooden dowel, 4 coats black paint, chain, glue). | Step Four: Whip up gigantic action figure cardback in Photoshop. Print on board-stock backing. | | | | Step Five: Photograph completed work, box it up, ship to Hollywood. | | | |
All entrants have been officially photographed and will be posted at MunkyKing.com. Those that don't sell at the show will be offered up online. Turns out art ain't cheap. Scope the official photos:
Awesome experience. A thanks to the Super Sucklord for the chance to participate. If you are in the LA area between now and November 23rd, go check it out.
